Between Bordeaux
and Soulac, the
Atlantic Ocean and the immense estuary of the Gironde - the Medoc forms
a peninsula. There are three different landscapes.
1- The northern medows reclaimed from the sea thanks to a system of
drainage dykes and canals.
2- The extensive forest to the west which faces the ocean.
3- Lastly the vineyards which dominate the slopes close to the Gironde.
(known locally as "the river")
Our home is situated in the wine-growing area of the appelation "Haut
Medoc" close to the Gironde.
We have chosen a few places which are characteristic of the geography
and history of the area for you to further explore.
